Moodlith is designed with your privacy at its core. 

This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data.

Moodlith is a mood tracking and wellness app that helps you understand your emotional patterns. All your data is stored locally on your device by default. We do not collect, transmit, or share your personal information with external servers or third-party analytics services.

By using Moodlith, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. This policy applies only to information collected by the Moodlith app and does not extend to information collected by Apple or other third-party services you choose to connect.

DATA WE COLLECT

Moodlith collects and stores the following types of data on your device:

Mood Entries

Your mood ratings (0-100 scale), emoji selections, timestamps, optional notes, and tags you create. This data is stored locally using SwiftData. You can also import mood entries from CSV files exported from other apps.

Health Metrics (Optional)

If you choose to connect Apple Health, we may access: sleep analysis data (hours), step count, and heart rate variability (HRV). This data is only accessed with your explicit permission and is stored locally. You can disconnect HealthKit access at any time.

Weather Data (Optional)

If you enable weather tracking, we use your device's location to fetch current weather conditions (temperature, humidity, conditions) from Apple WeatherKit. Location data is used only to determine your current weather and is not stored or transmitted. You can disable weather tracking at any time.

App Preferences

Your app settings, theme preferences, notification preferences, export presets, and feature toggles are stored locally on your device using UserDefaults.

Usage Analytics (Local Only)

The app tracks basic usage statistics locally (session duration, feature usage, mood patterns) to improve your experience. This data never leaves your device and is not shared with external services.

HOW WE USE YOUR DATA

Your data is used exclusively within the app to provide you with:

• Mood tracking and logging functionality

• Visualizations, charts, and trend analysis

• Personalized wellness recommendations and insights

• Pattern detection and correlation analysis

• Import and export functionality (CSV, PDF, JSON)

• Widget functionality for quick mood logging

• Reminders and notifications (if enabled)

All processing happens on your device. We do not send your data to external servers or third-party analytics services.

APPLE INTELLIGENCE (OPTIONAL)

Moodlith can use Apple Intelligence (Apple's on-device AI) to provide enhanced insights and personalized recommendations. This feature is optional and can be disabled in settings.

When Apple Intelligence is enabled:

• Your data is processed on your device using Apple's Foundation Models

• No data is sent to external servers or Apple's servers

• All AI processing happens locally on your device

• You can disable Apple Intelligence at any time in Settings

Apple Intelligence requires iOS 18.0 or later and is only available on supported devices. Processing is subject to Apple's privacy practices for on-device AI.

DATA STORAGE AND SECURITY

All your data is stored locally on your device:

Mood Entries & Context

Stored using SwiftData (Apple's modern data persistence framework) in your device's secure file system.

App Settings & Preferences

Stored in UserDefaults, which is encrypted by iOS as part of the app's secure storage container.

HealthKit Data

HealthKit data remains in Apple Health and is accessed by Moodlith only with your permission. We store a local copy of selected metrics for app functionality.

Widget Extension Data

Recent mood entries are shared with the widget extension via Apple's App Groups for local communication. This allows the widget to display your mood trends and enable quick logging. All data sharing happens locally on your device and never leaves your device.

Your data is protected by iOS security features, including app sandboxing, data encryption at rest, and secure file system access. We do not use cloud storage or synchronization unless you explicitly choose to export your data. Widget data sharing uses Apple's App Groups, which is a secure, local-only communication mechanism between the app and widget extension.

THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

Moodlith integrates with the following Apple services, which are subject to their respective privacy policies:

Apple HealthKit (Optional)

Used to access health metrics (sleep, steps, HRV) with your explicit permission. HealthKit data remains under Apple's control and is subject to Apple's privacy policy. You can revoke access at any time in iOS Settings.

Apple WeatherKit (Optional)

Used to fetch current weather data for your location when weather tracking is enabled. Weather data is provided by Apple and subject to Apple's privacy policy. Location data is used only to determine your weather and is not stored.

Apple Intelligence (Foundation Models) (Optional)

Used for on-device AI processing when enabled. All processing happens locally on your device. No data is sent to Apple's servers.

User Notifications (Optional)

Used to send you reminders and notifications if you enable them. You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings or within the app.

WidgetKit & App Groups (Optional)

Used to enable widget functionality for quick mood logging from your home screen. Data is shared between the app and widget extension using Apple's App Groups, which provides secure, local-only communication on your device. No data leaves your device.

We do not use third-party analytics, advertising networks, or tracking services. Your data is never shared with advertising companies or data brokers.

YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS AND CONTROLS

You have complete control over your data:

Access Controls

Control what data is collected through in-app settings. You can disable HealthKit access, weather tracking, Apple Intelligence, and notifications at any time.

Data Deletion

Delete individual mood entries or use the optional auto-delete feature to automatically remove data after a specified number of days. You can delete all app data by uninstalling the app.

Data Import & Export

Import mood data from CSV files exported from other apps, or export your data at any time in PDF, CSV, or JSON formats. Exported files contain only the data you explicitly choose to include.

Permissions

All optional permissions (HealthKit, Location, Notifications) can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings. The app will continue to function without these permissions.

DATA RETENTION

By default, your data is retained indefinitely on your device. However, you can:

• Enable automatic data deletion in Settings (optional)

• Manually delete individual entries or all data

• Delete all data by uninstalling the app

If you enable auto-delete, data older than your specified retention period will be automatically removed. Deleted data cannot be recovered.

DATA EXPORT

You can export your data in three formats:

PDF

Comprehensive reports with charts, trends, and analysis. You choose what to include: mood entries, health metrics, weather correlations, notes, and tags.

CSV

Data-only export for spreadsheets. Includes mood entries and any additional data you select (health metrics, weather, notes, tags). You can also import mood data from CSV files exported from other apps.

JSON

Structured data format for developers and APIs. Contains all selected data in a machine-readable format.

Exported files are saved to your device and can be shared through iOS sharing options. Exported data is under your control and is not sent to our servers.

LOCATION DATA

Moodlith only accesses your location when weather tracking is enabled, and only to fetch current weather conditions.

• Location data is used in real-time only and is not stored

• We do not track your location history or movement patterns

• Location accuracy is set to kilometer-level (not precise)

• You can disable location access at any time in iOS Settings

Weather data is fetched from Apple WeatherKit and associated with your mood entries, but your location coordinates are never stored.

CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Moodlith is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete such information from our records.

CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
